DE QUERVAIN'S TENOSYNOVITIS
De Quervain's tenosynovitis is inflammation of the sheath that two of the tendons on the thumb side of the wrist run through. There is pain and tenderness at the site of the inflammation. Certain movements can aggrevate the pain and this causes difficulties with every day activities, sports and work.
Initial measures include rest, avoidance of aggrevating activities and non-steroid anti-inflammatories. If these treatments do not resolve the problem a steroid injection into the tendon sheath affected can be undertaken.
Surgical treatment involves a decompression of the sheath through an incision made on the radial side of the wrist.
