TENDON INJURY AND REPAIR

Tendons connect muscle to bone and are responsible for transmitting the force generated by the muscles to allow movement of the fingers and wrist. If a tendon is cut in a hand injury there will be a loss of movement, either straightening or bending. These tendon lacerations need to be repaired urgently to restore continuity. Following repair a period of rehabilitation supervised by a hand therapist is crucial for good outcomes.
